DRPPL released their 2nd EP... this is the front and back of the record's sleeve.  This was a huge departure from my usual work but it's good to branch out.  More info on where to get a physical copy of the EP soon!

Spooks and specters

It's been awhile... lots of transitions and this and that. Lifelifelifeblahblahblah. Can honestly say that things have gotten better (hell yeah! is more like it)... the new job helps tremendously. It's interesting how being unhappy from one experience can completely re-direct and influence someone towards nothing and finding pure inspiration from the environment you began with can bring motivation to continue on.  (RunonsentenceGO!)

I want to give a huge thanks to the people I've spent time with the last two months... I really appreciate it.  You know who you are.  This is all personal introspection but enough banter.

Oh man, after hitting an art-block for the longest time I forget to post some things. There are always doodles and sketches for ideas that I have but never get to see the light of day... maybe I should start posting those. Might be good to post somewhat regularly, no?

Anyways, here is the DRPPL album cover I did a few months back.



The EP has been getting a lot of positive responses on different music blogs/websites/etc! It's great to see how far DRPPL have come along. It's kinda strange seeing the cover art on those sites... because if you think about it, visually, album art is synonymous with an EP or album. The art represents the music and the music represents the art... or atleast it used to. (The advent of digital downloads has diminished the excitement of album releases.) But I digress. I just hope the art meets the music/band/fans expectations.

And if you haven't gotten the EP yet, do yourself a favor and get it now! You won't be disappointed, promise.

My trip back home was amazing. DEERPEOPLE are amazing. Hugs and handshakes, bicycling, walking, slam dancing to Pink Flag (the entire album), jaunts to the local caffeine dispensary, staying up till daylight everyday and not fighting jet-lag, unusual May weather, Julian and co's graduation (congrats!), home-cooked festivities, and good conversation with good people.

Here's another flyer design for DEERPEOPLE and Boom Bang... minus the text.

Was thinking along the lines of Rick Froberg's work. Really, really neat stuff. I respect what he does because he seems to have it all together, both musically and visually. I remember hearing Drive Like Jehu for the first time in high school and was blown away. And then I heard Hot Snakes in college and was equally, if not more impressed. In 2007, I had the opportunity to see his drawings and inks in person and was impressed... again. I don't know if the man can do any wrong. Everyone is asked in elementary school, "what do you want to be when you grow up?" My answer was always one of two things- a paleontologist or cartoonist. But I'd like to retract my answer from way back when with, "I want to be Rick Froberg when I grow up."

And I'll admit, one reason I moved to San Diego was because of some of my favorite bands were from there. Call me foolish but it was great.
